What this means in practice

  • Nothing on this site is advice about your situation. Legal outcomes depend on facts, documents, deadlines and jurisdiction-specific rules that a website cannot know.
  • Reading this site, quoting it, or emailing the editorial desk does not create an attorney-client relationship with anyone.
  • We do not tell readers whether they have a claim, what a claim is worth, or what to file. We do not practise law. If you send an inquiry we may pass it to law firms that handle the relevant category of case, and we may be paid for doing so; those firms decide for themselves whether to respond and whether to take a matter.

About what you read here

  • Reported allegations are allegations. Pages describing complaints, notices or investigations report what has been asserted, attributed to the filing or the party that asserted it. An allegation is not a finding.
  • Court rulings, verdicts, regulatory actions and settlements are described as such, with the court or agency and the date named. Where an appeal, post-trial motion or approval step is pending, the page says so.
  • Settlements and claim deadlines come from the court or the official administrator. If those conflict with anything on this site, the court notice governs. Deadlines in a settlement notice are court-ordered and are not extended because a website described them differently.
  • Legal information changes. Statutes are amended, panels transfer cases, agencies revise guidance. Pages carry publication and review dates, but you should verify current status against the primary record before acting.

Sensitive matters

Some topics here involve serious harm, including child sexual abuse. Articles in this area describe the legal framework and the public record. If reading this material is distressing, support services in the United States include the National Sexual Assault Hotline (RAINN, 800-656-4673) and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. These are independent services, not affiliated with this publication.

Finding help

Sending an inquiry through this site does not make us your lawyer, does not make any receiving firm your lawyer, and does not create an attorney-client relationship with anyone.

If you need advice or representation, speak to a licensed lawyer in the relevant state. State and local bar associations operate referral services, and legal-aid organisations assist people who qualify. Court websites publish self-help pages for common filings. Where you need a deadline checked, the court or a lawyer should be your source, not a publication.

Errors
