The short version

This site sets no cookies of its own. It has no analytics, no tag manager, no social embeds and no tracking pixels. The only cookies you may receive here come from advertising served by Google AdSense, and those only exist while advertising is enabled. You can block or delete them at any time, and the site keeps working without them.

What is set before advertising is enabled

Nothing. The pages are pre-rendered HTML with one stylesheet and one small script that only runs the contact form. The web server keeps ordinary request logs for security and capacity reasons (IP address, time, requested URL, user agent) because it has to in order to serve the site and stop abuse; those logs are not used to profile readers and are not shared for advertising.

What advertising sets

When advertising is enabled, ads are served through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may then set or read cookies on your device, including to:

  • measure how many people saw an ad and how many interacted with it;
  • limit how often the same ad is shown to you;
  • select advertising that is more likely to be relevant to you (personalised advertising);
  • detect and prevent advertising fraud.

Google’s own description of this is in How Google uses cookies and How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

The cookies come from Google and third-party vendors, not from us: we cannot read them, and we do not receive the personal data behind them. We receive aggregate reporting (impressions, clicks, revenue) and nothing that identifies a reader.

Your choices

  • Personalised advertising: you can turn it off in Google Ads Settings. Turning it off does not remove ads, it makes them non-personalised.
  • Third-party vendor cookies: aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu (European readers) allow you to opt out of many vendors at once.
  • Browser controls: every modern browser can block or delete cookies, per site. Blocking advertising cookies does not affect the site’s content or the contact form.
  • European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland: where the law requires consent for advertising cookies, Google asks for it through a consent management platform before any such cookie is set, and you can change or withdraw your choice afterwards from the same notice.

Accepting advertising cookies consents to advertising cookies. It is not consent to be contacted, it does not create an attorney-client relationship, and it does not sign you up for anything. Our privacy policy explains what happens to information you send us yourself, including through the contact form.

Changes

If we add a cookie-based tool (analytics, for example), this page and the privacy policy will name it before it is deployed.
