The CollectiveClaim Editorial Desk writes, sources and fact-checks every article published here. It is an internal function rather than an individual byline, because we do not attach personal names or credentials to work unless those credentials can be verified by a reader.

What the desk does

  1. Sets the brief for each article: the question, the sources that must be used, and the claims that must not be made.
  2. Fetches and checks each source before a sentence that relies on it is published.
  3. Labels every material statement by its legal status: allegation, regulatory action, court ruling, settlement, or verdict.
  4. Reviews sensitive subject matter for tone and for the treatment of non-public individuals.
  5. Handles corrections and factual disputes, and logs substantive changes on the corrections policy page.

Credentials and review

No legal, medical or other professional credentials are claimed for the editorial desk, and no such review is implied on any article. Where a qualified reviewer examines an article, that review is arranged separately and disclosed on the article with the reviewer’s name and qualifications.
