Every article on Collective Claim carries the same byline: the Collective Claim Editorial Desk. That is a deliberate choice rather than a placeholder.
Individual bylines are only useful if the person behind them can be checked: a real name, a real professional record, a real set of credentials. We would rather publish no name at all than attach a plausible-sounding author to work they did not do. When an article names a reviewer, that reviewer is a real person whose qualifications are stated on the article, and the review actually happened.
Byline policy
- No invented authors, credentials or reviewers. We do not publish “staff writer” personas with fabricated experience.
- Expert review is disclosed, never implied. If a lawyer, physician or other specialist reviews an article, the article says who, with their qualifications, and what the review covered. If no such review occurred, nothing on the page suggests otherwise.
- The editorial desk is accountable. Attribution goes to a named internal function, which is where corrections and factual disputes are handled.
What this means for readers
Read the Sources section at the end of an article rather than the byline. That is where accountability sits: each claim is tied to a dated document, and a reader can check any of them without knowing who wrote the sentence.
If you think an article is wrong, the corrections policy applies regardless of who drafted it.
